Heritage-wise, I am Malay.  I wear ‘baju kurung’, I speak Malay and celebrate all the occasions that Muslims/Malays celebrate. But throughout my life, I’ve never really fit in with Malays. If you want me to be honest, I’ve never truly felt belonged.  If you want me to be even more frank, I don’t trust Malays. I trust my instincts, and with Malays, I’ve always felt that, subsconsciously they want everyone else to drop dead and fail.

And we Malays are mostly day dreaming and slacking off.

We forget our pride as a Malay….

I’m not a Malay, but I’m a convert to Islam, which I learned from the compassion showed to me by my Malay friends, much more than I had ever gotten from my Chinese relatives…On a personal level, as per my conversations with Malay friends, Malays know and freely admit that before the arrival of Muslim traders and missionaries in the 13-15th centuries, they were initially animists, then Hindus and Buddhists. As Pak Ripin told me “Oh, orang Melayu dulu-dulu ramai yang Hindu.” Just a plain statement of fact. Nothing hidden and no animosity. And now they have collectively chosen to be Muslim. History implies that they chose their religion freely at ‘each’ stage of their history. One proof is that even with the arrival one by one of the European invaders, none were able to Christianise the Malay. As if they didn’t try.

Quite a remarkable fact I would say @ Zachary Han

Traditional Malay strength being eroded as the people who successfully worked the land and planted padi is being diminished.  In other rice growing countries (Thailand, Vietnam, India) padi farming is already moving up the value chain, with increased participation by the farmers and their children. Rice milling, downstream processing of rice products, flour milling and rice based processed food products are increasing. It is becoming more value added. In Malaysia it is going in reverse. Our farmers are abandoning prime padi lands. We are importing more rice.  The traditional Malay strength in land ownership and farming is not being moved up the value chain.

Malay identity is seldom claimed but remembered, thus it disappeared.

Melayu Ta Kan Hilang Di Dunia, but lost inside.

In  the spirit of racial harmony, the uniqueness of Malay as a culture, heritage and spirits  not only be safeguarded from the assimilation of interracial tolerance but also be upheld and cherished by Malays and Malays wannabe.

Truly, we could afford to be lazy in this land of ‘Golden Soil’,of course with the absence of  “Money $God$“!

I belief that the Malays in general are in the period of methamorphosis. Thus the creation of the two groups of the opposite ends: the stereotype and citizen of the world (of which the later is Malay in all sense).
